The General Principles of Astrology was the first full-scale treatment of astrology written in America, and the first to deal with the new outer planets Uranus and Neptune in any depth. It tactitly relies on traditional theories such as the essential dignities, but introduced many innovations in interpretations and analysis, such as applying psychological methods to astrology.
